Show & Tell Friday.....Advent Calendar

Welcome to Show & Tell Friday, hosted by Kelli at There Is No Place Like Home.

This week.. I am sharing our new advent calendar I made for my family.

I found this sweet advent from Target. It was all ready for me to add the papers of my choice and add my own personal touches, which I added my kids pictures to a few of the drawers.

This piece is so nice and sturdy.. it will really hold up for many more Christmas Seasons.

What do you put in an advent ??? well, I decided to fill each drawer with a treats and selected scripture leading up to the birth of Christ. Which is a great time to share , and pray together as a family.. celebrating the Nativity of Christ.

There is much said for the practical Victorian custom of " keeping Christmas ". A celebration of yuletide, embracing religious and some secular traditions, which spread over many weeks and began with advent, one of the oldest celebrations associated with Christmas.

The advent season preceding Christmas was set aside for time of prayer. During the 1880's European craftsmen made elaborate Advent Calendars, which families used to tell the Christmas story. The Victorian calenders were almost all religious, today there are a variety made with just "cutesy holiday themes ", that have no real meaning. I vote for the true Christmas Story to be told to every little girl and boy.. the birth of Christ !!!!

Thank You for coming by to see our Advent !!!!

  1. Nice calandar. Last advent season I spent helping my daughter who was very sick and had a 2 month old on her hands. They had a flannel christmas tree with advent dates on it and we read scripture verses and sung a hymn each night--geat memories there.

  2. Your calendar is nice! It's a great tradition too.

  3. We've always enjoyed advent calendars and yours is great. I usually bought the cutest ones I could find that included the Bible story in them. Enjoy..

  4. What a neat idea! I agree with keeping the true Christmas story central.

  6. I very much like your advent calender. My hubby made an advent calender for me some years ago and I made one for him. This year, mine is not completely filled with goodies but with little love letters! Isn't that cute?

    Best wishes from Germany,
