A Walk Through History Part I...Roman Soldier Boot Camp

We had the opportunity to attend a really
cool adventure this past weekend.
Several of our friends as well as us of course,
attended A Walk Through History Expo...Which had over
one-thousand historical interpretive specialists
representing many different aspects of world history
from Ancient Rome, to Elizabethan England,
to Colonial America and beyond.
The time line started with the beginning of the
civilized world and marched its way through history
to the current conflicts in the universal War on Terror.
This event is one of the largest time-line living history
events west of the Mississippi River

As we arrived The Romans were offering a
Roman Army Boot Camp which would take the student
through first-hand Roman fighting techniques using
swords, proper use of the shield and pilum and how they wore their armor.

So, of course Maestro was ready and willing
to try his hand in this educational program for the afternoon!
They started him out in dressing him in his tunic.

He was then dressed in his very heavy armor which weighed a good 35 pounds !
The shield was really heavy as well!

They started out with learning how to march
in formation as well as learning all the Latin commands.
Maestro is the one in the front with the Converse shoes...too funny!

What a handsome soldier!
With his past mixed martial arts training,
Maestro was prepared for the proper sword skills.
He found this to be the fun part of the whole afternoon.

He looks pretty neat here!
One proud Mama standing by.

After all his training in the boot camp, they graduated him
with Roman honors and invited him
to join their group for the end of the days re-enactment.
That was the coolest ever!
Off they went, marching on through the park, yelling out,
"All Hail Ceaser!"

If one did not obey their command, they would
be captured and most likely killed for it!
They re-enacted a whole scene where a
Barbarian would not give Ceaser his allegiance.
He was then captured by my son and other soldiers!

This was truly an awesome experience for my son...
As well as all the kids. We have more to share,
so have to make this into a few posts!
Hope you will enjoy your time with us walking
through history!!!
