Good ole' Saint Nick....

It's Saint Nicks Birthday today!
 Every year we celebrate it by filling
 wooden shoes with goodies for our kids.
 I love this tradition. It is so sweet.
 I filled them with peppermints and a few
 ornaments I found thrifting for only 25. cents.

Happy St. Nicholas Day

For the past several years we have been celebrating St. Nicholas day.
Why Celebrate?

* To tell the story of a Christian saint, whose model life
inspires compassion and charity
* To reveal the true identity of Santa Claus and Father Christmas
* To focus on giving more than on receiving
* To emphasize small treats and family fun
* To provide a bit of special festivity early in the waiting weeks of Advent
* To offer a spiritual dimension to gift giving
* To help keep Jesus the center of Christmas

*To learn about the true St. Nicholas: the man of

faith who lived his life in devotion to Christ.

Saint Nicholas loved children and cared for the needy.
*He brings the love of Christ.
When we honor this saint, following his example
of selfless giving, we honor the Christ Child
who selflessly gave the greatest gift of all—
Himself.

My kids leave a treat for good Ole' St. Nick
the night before, by the fire place
along with treats in our red wooden shoes for his white horse.
Freckles & I made this special cookie last night. Isn't it cute?

This is what they woke up to this morning!
It has been fun to add this into our family fun traditions.

I really enjoy using the book called Mrs. Sharp's Traditions..reviving Victorian family celebrations of comfort & Joy by Sarah Ban Breathnach. The Victorian era is simply my favorite of all time.

Many Victorian families as well as today's families, Christmas really begins with a visit from Saint Nicholas on his birthday, December 6. This old fashioned tradition can start setting the mood for wonderful holiday memories for your families.

We are new to this tradition..yet love it so. I would like to say..visit my friend Kelli here to see what her family does for St. Nicholas Day !!! It is wonderful !!! Happy Birthday Ole' St. Nick !!!

We left goodies for St. Nicholas and his white horse in two old wooden shoes....

and left behind goodies for the kid's in return.





The kids really enjoyed this new Tradition.
