Oh My !!!!

I just had to share...
I went thrifting this weekend...well, really I needed to find more
 trims to add to the sowing box for a couple projects I have going on for the shop...
The best place to go is the Thrift Shops....Great deals are to found dirt cheap! So anyways,
 I am rummaging through the linens and such and passed.... or let's say I couldn't pass up the Ganny
 (An afghan we affectionionately call Ganny)
 I found. I have a couple Granny square afghans, one that
 my Gramma made years ago and now belongs to Freckles..
.And another Vintage one I found last Summer
 ( The Green & Pink one in the picture).
 So of course I had to bring this Ganny home.

This one is full of color with a black background...Love it!!!
And it was $4.00!!
I found the green and pink one for the same amount..YES!!!
It just doesn't get any better than that....

Now, I'm just waiting for a nice chilly night to use them...
(since it is way too warm here in Sunny Cali!)
So hopefully that will be soon....
For now their going to drape over the couch and chair...Cozy!!

Into The Woods....

 

Freckles and I enjoyed an afternoon out while the boy's were home.
 We went to our friends 26 acre ranch nestled in the woods, to have a little adventure..
 It was fun.....
 Freckles wore her sweet granny square shawl, we thought we would share.
 This was a Thrift find which only cost $3.00....
And she loves it!
Isn't it cute?

 

It is so cheery and absolutely adorable on her.
Now she has a chance to wear it as it is cooling down a bit around here.

 

We saw a doe and her fawn frolicking through the woods as we walked around the property. We collected acorns and twigs, played in the old wagons which we will share in our next post....Since I take so many pictures I didn't want to bombard this post with all that... And, Freckles wanted me to share the classic fairytale we played out with her Topsy Turvey Little Red Riding Hood doll.

 

Once upon a time in the little town of Dripping Springs there was a little girl with braids and a red cape named Little Red Riding Hood who was walking through the forest to take a basket full of goodies to her sick Gramma who was laid up in her bed. She had to walk several miles from her home, so her mother warned her to stay on the path.
 

Little Red was usually a very compliant child...
So off she went to Gramma's house. Little Red did not know there
 was someone lurking behind the trees watching her....

 


Little Red continued on her way down the path like a good little girl...until a patch of  pretty yellow flowers caught her eye and distracted her...She thought how wonderful it would be to pick some for her Grammy...That would surely cheer her spirits and help her to get well quicker. So , she disobeyed her Mother and left the path to pick the flowers.
( Tsk..Tsk...Little Red! )

She collected a sweet bouquet for her Grammy. Then realized that she disobeyed her Mother, and quickly set out to the path running for her Grammy's house full of guilt. She got to her Gramma's cottage and knocked lightly on the door. "Come in" a weak and frail voice muttered. Little Red entered a dark room." Gramma, why are your candles out, I can barely see you there?" She cried. " Come a little closer my dear" Gramma whimpered. Little Red jumped up to her Gramma and sat on her bed side with the bouquet of flowers in hand and a quirky grin on her dirty, freckled face.

 

"My, Grammy, what big ears you have!" Red squealed.
 "The better to hear you with my dear"...
"Oh Gramma what big eyes you have!" She exclaimed.
"The better to see you with my child"....
 Oh Gramma, Gramma...What big teeth you have!" She screeched.
 "All the better to eat you with!!!!!"
Little Red leaped up scared out of her bloomers,
 as she realized this was surely not her sweet Grammy. It was a
 BIG BAD WOLF!!!!
 Who had eaten her Gramma and was going to eat her too!
The next part of the story is too gory... And this is a rated G blog so I will spare you those details...But, there is of course a happy ending.....Gramma was saved from the wolf...
 By a brave Woodsman who happened to hear the commotion nearby.

 

Little Red and Gramma were traumatized for quite a while afterwards, as Little Red was also very sorry for not listening to her Mother... Like she should have! She said she was sorry and all was forgiven. They were just thankful that Grammy was still alive... Gramma moved in with Little Red and her Mother...And they all lived happily ever after...

Well, that's our version anyway.

 

Freckles and I also spread out a blanket under an oak tree
 to have a special tea with Little Red.

 

It wasn't the sort of tea you would think to have...

 

It was all pretend!

Granny Squares

Don't you just love the Granny Square?
It's like a little piece of art all in one square.

I recently learned how to make these little sweeties...
And decided to make something for my daughter.
I don't think I will get as far as making an afghan...
at least not right now.

Perhaps, it will be a pillow topper instead.
