Vintage Easter...

Through the years we have made an effort to keep traditions and making memories an important part of our family life. One thing I know for sure it has worked. Our kids look forward to those special things we do year after year...Sometimes we have even changed it up a bit with implementing new things to what we do. My kids are getting older...(sigh) Yet, they still enjoy it all. Our son ( almost 18) isn't around as much anymore with full time college and work...This year I am sad to say he missed out on the egg coloring. He said it was totally okay with it. Yet my heart still sunk a bit because it is something we have always done. I am confident that he cherishes those times and will carry them with him into his life.
For Good Friday we went to our church service and had some friends over for a meal afterwards. I made a ham, mashed red potatoes, bourbon baked beans, a spinach salad and a lovely fruit salad with yogurt sauce made by our dear friend Marilee

This last week we had fun making our paper nests and these string eggs. The eggs though, were kinda a flop...You have to stick string into starch and wrap it around a water balloon until it drys...Well, our balloons started to deflate before the process was finished...So they didn't quite keep their shape. I still strung them up and hung them in our window...But it's more like a stringy colorful mess than an egg shape. Oh well...You win some and you lose some. It was still fun.

I started filling our Easter baskets with some goodies.
This year I filled Lil carrot cellophane bags with colorful fishies.
The only other thing I bought was jelly beans...The rest of the candy is homemade.

Here Miss Freckles is coloring all the eggs all to herself.
We colored them the old fashioned way...
Food coloring and vinegar. I think she kinda liked having all the eggs to herself.

Friday we made these yummy goodies. I found them on pinterest. Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs. They turned out wonderfully. And yummy by the way. Pretty darn close to the taste of Reese's.
We will definitely do this one again. We also attempted making candy corn...I followed the directions to a "T"...And it was too, a flop. YOUCH.... I thought I would maybe try it again another time...
When I have the time.

Okay so, a few weeks ago I went Thrifting for some Easter stuff...and found some sweet vintage goodness. This sweet plastic bunny container above...So cute and vibrant in color. I am filling it with chocolate covered pretzels. Yum.

Since we are not BIG into all the commercialism of holidays...We keep Easter quite simple. Since Easter is really a very important time for us to reflect on what Christ has done for us, not about the Easter Bunny. I found the cutest basket for Freckles that reminded me of an Easter basket that was given to me when I was a little girl. They just don't make 'em like they used to. I filled it with some plastic eggs, jelly beans, some colorful neon crayon markers, a little chick and a vintage bunny also found thrifting. That's it...SIMPLE.

Tomorrow we reflect and ponder and celebrate
 The Risen Savior.
Happy Easter.
