A Winter Retreat

My son got back from his Winter retreat up in Idyllwild California. Several of his friends from church went up with other Presbyterian Churches. They were welcomed with some snow, cabins, games, fellowship, devotions as well as church on Sunday and horsing around times of course!

It looks pretty cold up there. he said it was a great experience and better than last year. I am so glad he had the chance to go this year. He came back talking about doing a missions trip next. Prayerfully he will be able to experience that this Summer.

Here's my cute boy with a couple of his close friends...
 Awaiting a meal!

Looks like he had plenty of goofing around
time and a few snowball fights!

And there were plenty of magical scenes among them....
I love all the snow pics. How pretty it is!

Sunday, a few of his chums dressed up nicely for Church.
They are some sharp looking guy's...let me tell you!

Lastly, this was the whole gang from our Church that went together. They had the time of their lives and made some special memories. Oh to be young again! I wish I could have gone to things such as this. I am happy for them! Hope you enjoyed the pics. I did!!! Since I wasn't there myself to see with my own eyes, I am so glad there are pictures to see the experience.
Happy Wednesday!!!!

Snowmen.......

When ever we get snow... there is sure to be a Snowman !!!!

In occidental cultures and the northern hemisphere, snowmen are considered a symbol of Christmas[citation needed] and winter for many, and they often appear on Christmas cards.
This activity dates back to at least the Middle Ages, when in Europe every new snowfall would have townsfolk making snowmen on the streets. This according to old diaries and chronicle.

and this is one of our favorite Snowman stories. ahhh.. it made me cry !!!!

Snowflakes .........

**************************************************

From the earliest memories of our childhood, many of us can remember hearing the phrase "no two snowflakes are alike". This discovery was made in the small rural town of Jericho, Vermont by Wilson A. Bentley (1865-1931).

*************************************************

A self educated farmer, Bentley attracted world attention with his pioneering work in the area of photomicrography, most notably his extensive work with snow crystals (commonly known as snowflakes). By adapting a microscope to a bellows camera, and years of trial and error, he became the first person to photograph a single snow crystal in 1885.

******************************

He would go on to capture more than 5000 snowflakes during his lifetime, not finding any two alike. His snow crystal photomicrographs were acquired by colleges and universities throughout the world and he published many articles for magazines and journals including, Scientific American and National Geographic.

*************************************************

In 1931 his book "Snow Crystals", containing more than 2400 snow crystal images, was published by McGraw-Hill but has long been out of print. A soft cover copy, identical in all respects, can be obtained today from Dover Publications, Inc.. On December 23, 1931, Bentley died at the family farmhouse in Jericho. Because of his wonderful work with snow crystals, he became affectionately known as "Snowflake" Bentley.

The snow has come upon us early here in the Northwest. The kids have been playing in it.. then it melted away. But... it snowed again over the weekend.. I think we're going to get hit alot more this Winter.

My son had a chance to go out and capture this really cool image of a snowflakes falling. I looked at it in awe and admiration in the Lord. I was utterly speechless.
