Gifts From Czech....

It's been a week since my son returned from his trip to Czech. It's been great having him home. This week we just sort of hung out, taking it easy, enjoying our last days of Summer. We are all preparing for school to begin. Our son started a couple classes at a Jr. College yesterday...as Mr. Darling will start September 1st. I will be starting Freckles lessons after Labor Day weekend. Sorry I have been quiet around here...I had three teeth pulled last week and still trying to recover from the pain...But wanted to pop in and share the gifts my son brought back from Prague! The first three pictures is of the scarf he got Freckles...It is colorful just like her. She loved it. Maestro said that scarves are a big thing in the Czech Republic...

He had a grand time for one whole week hiking many many miles in the Czech mountains....Somewhere along that trip he spotted these sweet owls from afar in the window of a shop...And knew he had to get them for his sister...and as a special belated birthday gift to her since he was unable to be here for her birthday. The owls are completely handmade from elements found in the forests/mountains of Czech...It is the sweetest, simplest, most thoughtful gift he could have gotten her. It now hangs in her room to enjoy.

He found some babushka nesting dolls for me to add to my collection.
 I love them of course!

Lastly he brought back Czech beer for Mr. Darling. I was actually shocked he made it out of the country with them...and gasped when he told me they sold it to him. All the gifts were thoughtful and appreciated. I am so happy he took the time to think about what we like. He really is such a sweet young man. He even brought back his friend a lovely gift...which I don't have pictures of...but it totally represented her to the "T". I told him that he has good taste just like his Mama.(LOL). Hope you all are enjoying the last days of Summer.
Cheers!!!

A Babushka Brunch Tablescape.....

Ready for Brunch?.... A Babushka Brunch that is!
I set the table for a fun Spring Brunch. This table is so colorful...It made me happy inside! So happy I am leaving the setting for dinner too! I got out my thrifty finds from garage sales, thrift stores and World Market!
The table is set with all the colors of the rainbow and Spring!
I love it!

The small plates were thrifted as the yellow plates were
brand new from a garage sale earlier this Spring. I spent a dollar on each plate...Not too bad!
The babushka Matryoshka napkin rings are from World Market...
I found them last Fall...So sweet, I even got Babushka salt and pepper shakers.
I used a candle base and vintage bowl with a plate on top to serve as a serving dish of course. It gave the table setting a whimsical fun feel to it. The runner is just a big napkin I found thrifting. I used a polka dotted vase for my orchids that I had on hand which I also found thrifting a couple years back.
I used my vintage cloth napkins which I picked up at a little antique shop for pennies. The Babushka glass ware was found on Ebay as the other glasses were from a garage sale.  It doesn't take a lot of money to make a table setting fun...I really just used what I have laying around and pulled it all together.
I hope this will inspire you to think out of the box, make it fun with Lot's of colors...It will bring cheer to whatever occasion. Thank you for taking the time to drop in today.
Have a great remainder of the week ahead!

Babushka...Matryoshka...Ya Ya!

These girls make me smile! With their vibrant colors and whimsy, they are sweet as can be. I found the three girls above thrifting about a year or so ago. They are signed by the artist, hand painted in the 80's. I love that they were hand painted by someone and not mass produced. The great thing was I paid $2.00 for them!

The next set was mass produced, yet I though they were very colorful and fun...so I paid $4.00 for them at the mall last year.... I love that my daughter plays with them too! I'll show you a couple more sets that my daughter keeps in her room another time....

I love to collect these little things...They just bring so much cheer to a shelf!
Wishing you all a wonderful Friday!

Around The House...

The day starts with breakfast...A must around here...If we don't get breakfast the rest of the day is a flop. We did a bit of our cleaning chores around the house, getting ready for Sunday... It's always so nice to wake up to a clean house, go to Church refreshed and back home for
Sunday fellowship to a house that's still clean!

I thought I would capture a few pictures around the house as I am dusting and adding my little touches of sunshine. Like my favorite little vintage girl flower
bud vase I got from Etsy last year.
In honor of  May Day she holds a (real) Daisy!

I got around to dusting all the baseboards and washed down the walls from sticky little fingers....
The books needed a little dusting and a little reading for a bit! We love our old kid books.
It reminds me of when I was a kid!

I even managed to start this project! I found a foam wreath for .50 cents thrifted and wrapped red yarn around it...That took a while...whew! Next I need to add my fabrics posies and hang it! Sometimes I just have to stop from all the mundane things and create a little cheer for my home since I rarely ever keep my work. I promise to share when it's all done!

Freckles even did a bit of crafting herself...She put together this sweet posy!
Hope you have a delightful May Day!!!

Babushka Book Bag...

I am still here working on some Summer Sewing projects.
This week I made
Freckles this sweet Babushka Book Bag!

We filled it with her vintage books, some candy pops
and a little babushka softie to cuddle

We love the fabrics so much that I am making Freckles a matching blouse...
Which I will share as soon as I get finished with it!
This is the perfect bag to tote your books & trips to the Library.
Hope your having a fun Sunny Summer Day!
