Halloween 2015

I finished 31 days of sketching! I actually added 4 days into one
picture since I was still sick...I am a lot better now...yay!!!!

Freckles and I cut out Jack O Lanterns and dressed up for Halloween. We were actually separated this year...Freckles went out with a bunch of friends this year! Yep, she's growing up! She and her friends were going to dress up with Alice In Wonderland characters...One friend was joining in with her dressing up as female Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum...

Mr. Darling and I joined in with our local Safe Trick Or Treating downtown, setting up our booth, representing our church...And handed out candy to a ton of kids. I dressed up as a Pop Art character

Hope y'all had a safe, fun Halloween!!!

October Sketches 20~26

Day 20
~BERRIES~

This month is almost coming to a close! Boy, has it passed by quickly. I caught up with more sketches for the challenge I took this month. It was fun. There are a few more before the month ends...But feel that a few of the word prompts will probably will be put together into one picture. Will share later...For now here are the next seven sketches/watercolor/paintings I did in the challenge.

Day 21
~SWEATER WEATHER~

Day 22
~BLANKET/QUILT~

Day 23
~DEER/ANTLERS~

Day 24
~CANDY~

Day 25
~CAT~

Day 26
~HOT COCOA~

I enjoyed these sketches quite a bit. I love how the pumpkin turned out. I painted the deer/antlers for Freckles...The quilts make me happy..I decided to make the whole paper the quilts..The berries in the top picture represent Lingonberries ...One of my favorite preserves in the Fall...Perfect pairings with Swedish meatballs and mashed potatoes...And after drawing that picture, I went to the grocery and got some, cooked up some Swedish meatballs and mash for one of our dinners...It was soooooo good! You eat it like you would a cranberry sauce! And one of my faves is actually the tea cup with cocoa in it...It could also be tea inside the cup...Since I love tea...
Well that's all I got for today...I am still recovering from the flu and a cold on top of it from the last couple weeks...So I am off, until next time!

Halloween Simplicity

Welcome Autumn.
There are only few signs here in California, that Autumn is here...Some trees are changing colors and leaves are falling to the ground. But the heat during the day feels like Summer. The evenings still cool down nicely...But that is it. Sure makes me miss my home in Washington. Autumn was such a lovely time spent there. Not a whole lot of Autumn happens inside my home either. I guess you can say I am not a huge Autumn/Halloween decorator. I like the brighter colors as most Fall decor tends to be earthy toned. So, I just add little things, that I love, here and there. I keep it pretty simple.
Christmas is the time where I like to deck the halls.

I figured, I would share some snapshots from my Iphone.
Sorry for the blurry,grainy pictures.

I don't have a whole lot of Halloween decor. But,
I sure do tend to gravitate to the vintage stuff.
I just love vintage holiday decor, don't you? It brings smiles.
Do you like decorating for Halloween/Autumn, Christmas or both?

The Raven & Lenore Nevermore

It is almost time for Halloween.
We decided to get started on Freckle's costume this year. Our minds started swirling around with idea's. She wanted to be a character from a book or a story... Knowing she likes poetry/Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven". I suggested "Lenore Nevermore". That was it.... We went out to a couple thrift shops, found a gown, a white wig, and a black top hat. We then went to the craft store to get embellishments for the hat. She chose a Raven of course, a black rose, doodads and feathers. We also found some black lace finger~less gloves. It was all coming together.

We decorated the little top hat...And did a test run on her makeup, hair and costume. We also found some fake black feather like eyelashes, but we will wait to put them on for Halloween. We were quite pleased. It was just what we envisioned. It sort of has a little bit of a steam punk feel to it as well.

I think she looks beautiful.
So, of course since we are home schoolers,
we will be doing a little study on our dear
Edgar Allan Poe as our Poet of the month...

Here is a little synopsis of The Raven:
"The Raven" follows an unnamed narrator on a night in December who sits reading "forgotten lore" as a way to forget the loss of his love, Lenore. A "rapping at [his] chamber door"  reveals nothing, but excites his soul to "burning".  A similar rapping, slightly louder, is heard at his window. When he goes to investigate, a raven steps into his chamber. Paying no attention to the man, the raven perches on a bust of Pallas above the door.
Amused by the raven's comically serious disposition, the man asks that the bird tell him its name. The raven's only answer is "Nevermore". The narrator is surprised that the raven can talk, though at this point it has said nothing further. The narrator remarks to himself that his "friend" the raven will soon fly out of his life, just as "other friends have flown before" along with his previous hopes. As if answering, the raven responds again with "Nevermore". The narrator reasons that the bird learned the word "Nevermore" from some "unhappy master" and that it is the only word it knows.
Even so, the narrator pulls his chair directly in front of the raven, determined to learn more about it. He thinks for a moment in silence, and his mind wanders back to his lost Lenore. He thinks the air grows denser and feels the presence of angels, and wonders if God is sending him a sign that he is to forget Lenore. The bird again replies in the negative, suggesting that he can never be free of his memories. The narrator becomes angry, calling the raven a "thing of evil" and a prophet. Finally, he asks the raven whether he will be reunited with Lenore in Heaven. When the raven responds with its typical "Nevermore", he is enraged, and, calling it a liar, commands the bird to return to the "Plutonian shore", but it does not move. Presumably at the time of the poem's recitation by the narrator, the raven "still is sitting on the bust of Pallas. The narrator's final admission is that his soul is trapped beneath the raven's shadow and shall be lifted "Nevermore".

Autumn In The Air...

Well, not really in the air around here. We are experiencing, what I hope is an end to an Indian Summer. Yet, we do have some cooler evenings, which have been nice. I am finally putting out a few Autumn decorations. I don't really do too much as far as Fall decor... I also like to keep it with some happy colors....So I've been making some happy color stuffed pumpkins to put around the house. I get really into the holiday decorating when Christmas comes around. I have what seems to be hundreds of boxes filled with Christmas stuff, compared to one box of Autumn decor. I must say though, I am really lovin' these colorful pumpkins.

If your interested in making some stuffed pumpkins for yourself...
I found the tutorial here:
I just made them in different sizes...Easy to do in just minutes.
Happy Making.

Making

I finally sat down in the sewing room to make something. It has been months since I created anything at all. (with exception to Freckles birthday gifts) And it felt good to make again. She is a work in progress, but just about finished. I have more Hallows Eve creations swirling around in my head...To get them out....I will certainly try. Our home school year begins next week too....So a lot of my time will be devoted to educating my daughter. With good intentions, I will work on making more.

I am really happy with how this pumkin gal turned out. There are several different things going on with paint, sewing, hand stitching, using wool, felt wool, vintage fabrics, old buttons and cotton fabrics...Let's just say there was a lot of love put into her. She is fun, festive and sweet all wrapped in one. Can you believe Autumn is just around the corner? Whew, this Summer flew by. Okay, okay....Back to work.
