The Bookworm

If she's not writing or shopping, she's reading.
 My Freckles is a Bookworm.
She loves books. Most of her collection has been purchased with her own money. So proud of her. She got a job babysitting a few kids across the street and makes $10 an hour. Which is pretty good pay. So, most every time she gets paid she goes shopping for books. Though sometimes she will buy some clothing or makeup...Most of the time it's a book or even a stack of books.

You will find her browsing the bookstores and thrift stores for pages of gold. Once in a while she will order a book from Amazon. She is an avid reader, reading 5 books at a time...Not all at once! She will read for hours. I knew she would have a love of books at a very early age. Of course I read to her every night when she was younger and she learned to read way before kindergarten. Her collection has grown into 100's...Not too shabby for a young girl.

I am a reader.
 Not because I don't have a life
 but because
 I choose to have many.

Books

Life has been a bit of a whirlwind this last month. I am not even on track with blogging and sharing. I ran across these recent photos taken when we went to Monterey Bay last month. Freckles, as you may know has a love for reading books. She has been collecting a lot of books as of late to add to her ever growing collection. She reads about 4~5 different books at a time. She tends to choose a lot of fantasy and adventure which inspires her to work on the books she is writing herself.

We made an adventure out of this particular day...Since my dear hubby is also a lover of books, but picks books of Theological nature...We decided to hit several bookstores that day. Freckles usually has no problem at all finding a stack of books. She does the same thing when we hit thrift shops. It's fun to watch her as she hunts for her book bargains. This venture led to a stack of books, just as I predicted she would.

At times I buy her books...But recently she has been purchasing her books with her very own babysitting money. She babysits and makes great money doing it. Makes me so proud of her. Not only does she buy books/this & that with her money, she is also setting aside savings and tithing money for church. So, if you need any good titles of books for your tweens/teens, drop us a line...She has a built in Library in her room. I'm sure we can suggest something.

Her 13th Year

My precious girl is celebrating her 13th year today. I can't believe she's a teenager now. The time has passed...I promised myself I wouldn't blink, but I did...She is growing up into a fine young lady. We decided to take some pictures of her last day being 12 and welcoming in her 13th year. We wanted them to reflect her...So we went with books. She is an avid reader and loves to collect books....It was fitting for my sweet girl.

We have been collecting these beautiful leather bound classics from Barnes And Nobel. I also added a few which she will get later as one of her gifts. The covers and illustrations are fantastic.

We also gave her a bunch of flowers. The sunflower bouquet was given to her by her daddy. He brought them home just as we were taking these pictures.

And let's not forget the birthday crown I made, so she can wear it every birthday.
We have a fun filled day per her request. Birthday presents,French crepes for breakfast,
a trip to the book store, a movie and Red Robin for dinner.
She's gonna love it.
Happy Birthday to our beautiful daughter, Freckles...
We love you.

This & That...

Today I am writing a miscellaneous post...Since I am really sick right now. I started feeling sick over the weekend., so went to the doctor today...Unfortunately I have bronchitis again. My son is sick too...He's been feeling down and out since his trip to the Sierra's. Hopefully we'll start feeling back to ourselves soon.

Thank you to all who stopped in and took their time to wish my daughter a Happy Birthday. She had a great 12th b-day. She had birthday waffles, we roamed around the bookstore...a favorite place we go...I love flipping through and keeping up with all the magazines I can't afford. LOL.
Then we took her to see Spider Man ( her request ) After the movie we took her to Red Robin for dinner.
She got some presents and cards and a couple birthday calls. It was a good day indeed.

Over the weekend we celebrated our really good friend, Geoff's wedding to a sweet gal. Some ladies from church have a catering business and hosted the reception for our friends. I was also hired to take pictures of the food and tables for the ladies business. Above is just one that I took. I will probably share more later...just to make y'all hungry. HA... It was a wonderful occasion.
We are thrilled beyond mention that they got hitched.

Here's some owl art my daughter has done.
Above is a sweet painting she did for her friends birthday.
It is adorable isn't it? Her friend loved it.

She also sculpted this owl in a clay class she took over the Summer.
So cute.

I can't believe Summer is almost over. We'll be starting school soon.
There's still some things off our Summer Bucket list we have to accomplish before Summer ends. I'm happy we crossed off quite a bit so far. Have you all had the chance to do what you wanted to do this Summer?
Hope y'all are having a great Summer end.

Passport To France....

Hello everyone. This week Freckles started out ill again with the flu and fever. Poor dear couldn't stand to keep her head up with her head pounding and sore throat. I pretty much gave her the week off to rest. By the time Friday rolled around she was still a bit under the weather...yet, she had a little more spunk in her. I was planning on starting our unit studies on France earlier in the week...But since she was ill we held off....Until she felt better. We started it Friday....And love it...I ordered the Passport to France unit studies through Unit Studies by Amanda Bennett. We spent the morning by making our passport and watching video clips, geography lessons and cooking.
We cooked up one of our favorite things to eat...CREPES...

Freckles spent the rest of our day creating her first lapbook on France...Filling out maps, learning French words and numbers and drawing The Eiffel Tower. Then we went to the Library to pick out some books to read up on more facts and fun in France. This has been a really fun way to get creative while learning. We have already decided to get another Unit Study on Italy. We have lot's more to learn and add to the lapbook next week...Saturday morn we will make a special trip down to the Patisserie for some authentic French crepes and hot cocoa.

Today I am thankful for:
81. Being able to Home School
82. Fun lessons
83. The Library
84. Books
85. New things to learn about and be blessed by.
