I Like Old Stuff...

Nope, this isn't a post about our move or our new place yet. We burned out pretty hard this last week from the moving and excitement. Freckles ended up getting sick this last week....So following suit is of course me and Mr. Darling. We are slowly getting somewhere with our stuff...Good thing is the kitchen is all unpacked. Other rooms will follow. So....I decided to share some goodies we found thrifting, before the move here. You know how much I like old stuff...Before our big move my family was having a garage sale, there lying on a table was my Grandpa's little Kodak Instamatic and his Polaroid, of course we had to save them from someone buying it for a buck. Freckles wants to get some film for it...She is now even displaying her Great Grandpa's cameras in her room on a shelf. Awwww, so sweet. You can still buy film for them too...So I was thinking when she goes on her Summer Camp trip, I'll get some film for her to take pictures with it.

Okay, so off we go to the thrift shops...I found this darling pull doggy, which reminded me of my childhood. Fisher Price toys are timeless. And, yes I was singing down the isles as I clutched him close, "How much is that doggy in the window" Soon I will show you our craft/guest bedroom/school room where this doggy resides with his other pals.

Sorry for the blurry pictures...I took some of these with my phone. Next up...Another little doggy made it in my bag along with some sweet yellow dessert dishes and a colorful tea tin.
One of the best bargains was finding another vintage typewriter for Freckles. This darling blue electric typewriter was 75% off the day we went in...So for $8.00.....I couldn't pass it up and it works wonderfully. Ever since she got her yellow typewriter for her birthday last year, she has been writing almost non stop every day with it...She is in the middle of writing a series of books. Shes so cool. Will share more on that another time.

I found this sweet Grannie square Ghanny...All pretty and pastel..this perhaps may be
one I will part with in  my shop in the near future.

MMMMMM. I also found vintage sheets. Some will be used as our bedding and some will be for projects. I got more, which isn't pictured here. Can't wait to start sewing again.

I couldn't pass up these beautiful Pyrex and Fire King dishes. Yes, I am one of those suckers who love Pyrex...Especially the ones I can afford. They finally have a nice home in a hutch I refinished the other day. Will share pictures soon. Some of you may have seen it on my Instagram account: Check my Instagram/ user name is Junquemama if you want to follow along.

Lastly I found this sweetie for just a few dollars in a Thrift Shop here in San Jose...The weekend we came up to visit, before we moved...i had to scope out some of the Thrift shops I would be frequenting. I love this vintage German Irmi Child/Nursery lamp, it's brilliant colors are perfect for my sewing table. I just have to get it a lampshade.

I love the characters on it....Especially this cow.
Well, that's it for now. I hope to show you our new digs soon.
So come on back I will be doing some canning even this week...
We were blessed with some fruit trees. Yay.

Work Before Play...

Good morning everyone....Today will be filled with bustling around the house, school, art projects, a bit of sewing and perhaps a little fun. But first we must play work then play. Other than that, I really don't have much. I am looking forward to this weekend...My mom and sister are coming down to do a bit of shopping and lunch for our birthdays...That ought to be fun. The rest of the week is mainly working on purging stuff, staying focused and keeping joyful while we do it. Little things like this tiny pencil sharpener globe brings a smile. Isn't it adorable? Freckles found it while thrifting. She has a good eye for stuff we like.

We also found these cheerful rainbow socks at The Dollar Store.
Too cute to pass up.
Now she has Happy Feet.

Missy is sporting some funky shades we also found for a buck at Target.
 I love that pooch.

OOOH...Remember Pick Up Sticks? We found this for a buck at the Thrift Shop...Now I just have to teach Freckles how to play. Would you believe, Duncan Hines Pancake Mix had this in the box? Remember when the prizes in cereal were way cool and even Cracker Jacks had fun prizes. Now there is junk in them. After all our work today...We will do a little play...Pick Up Sticks anyone?
Happy Thursday to you.

Monday Morning Musings....

Good Morning.
It's Monday... Can't believe how these days are flying by. We are almost at the end of March. Easter is right around the corner. Whew. Where does the time go? This coming month we will be celebrating 18 years of marriage, I will be 4 decades old, we are celebrating our son's graduation and preparing for all the happenings in May...A fresh start. Oh the wonderful things that Spring brings.

There are so many things to be gratful for, so many joys to embrace.
I am loving this verse right now. And I am pulling out some Springtime decorations.

I found this Tweet Vintage candy dish with a darling bird on top.
Oh the joy to find sweet treasures for really cheap. A whole $2.00 spent...Woot Woot.

I am also enjoying this colorful book I created on Shutterfly. I got to create the book for FREE...Just paid shipping. I love when they have those FREE promos. The book was fun to make...It's got some happy colors and all my recent favorite pics. of my kids and stuff. (Happy Dance)
Well...I'm off to prepare for the day...Gotta get back to reality...school...you know stuff like that?
Have a wonderful week ahead.

Bedroom Decorating For A New Year....

It was about 8 years ago I fell in love with my cherry wood sleigh bed...My room was warm and meant to be a bit masculine for my husbands sake. Not because I had to, but I wanted to make it his too. We had a earthy tone floral bedspread that worked well for the both of us. Over time and living in the rainy, gloomy state of Washington..The dark colors started to get to me...The room was dark. I couldn't just change it around for we spent a lot of money on that bed. So the years went by and I tried to stay content. It moved with us to California 4 years ago. I had no muster in me to even decorate my bedroom. It was too dark...too depressing, even a sweet quilt couldn't cheer the space enough. I didn't even hang pictures on the walls until this Summer. I finally told myself when the New Year rang in I would get a new bed and redecorate our space. So I saved up my money from sales on Etsy... and got a little white bed. It was just what I needed to lighten up the room and motivate color. Now to put my bed on Craigs list. I also kicked out my dark bookcase oh yeah... Freckles also decided to change her room a bit and wished to use her dresser when she was a baby...which will need refinishing after I painted it pink many moons ago. So, she gave me the white dresser in return. I am thrilled for I love that dresser. I collected some fluffy feathered pillows on thrifting escapades... added the embroideries on the wall which I have also found thrifting. And hung the sweet reminder to always kiss me goodnight...a gift from my dear Mr. Darling.

It's amazing what a bit of color and lighter furniture can do to a room. My hubby was in shock after I did it all and surprised him with it. He was pleasantly surprised and happy with the room, even though it looks a little more on the cute feminine side. I love how my quilts pop in the room and the little splashes of red that I love. I have been hanging out in my room more too...like flipping through magazines, reading and heck I am
snuggled down in my fluffy bed as I type. I really like being in here.

A few more embroideries are now on my wish list to complete the wall, perhaps another quilt, and some window treatments. I really needed this change. I am so thrilled to have bright colors and cozy feelings to wake up to and motivate my creativity and start my day off with a little smile. Sometimes change is good. Now I am ready to ring in the New Year and change more things around in my life as we will soon be focusing on our new future once Mr. Darling graduates in May.
There will be a lot more good things to look forward to.
Here's to a wonderful New Year.

The Many Faces...

During our trip to the Antique Mall with my friend last week. I had a funny thought about all the faces I had looked at within the couple hours we were going through all the booths. These are just a few out of 100's of faces you would come across in such a place. There were so many faces I would have loved to bring home. I think I saw at least 20~25 Raggedy Ann and Andy's!

There were many Bob's... And Jamima's.

There were funny faces, happy faces, some a little sad....

Some were a bit mellow and sleepy...

The best of them all was the one who winked at me...
it's amazing how many faces you will find...
have a Happy day!!!

Little Red Treasures....

Happy Rednesday!
Hosted by
I just rearranged my armoire yesterday and thought
I would share with you just a few of my favorite little red things.
First off the little red vintage chair on top of an old
little suitcase was a gift from
my dad for his little granddaughter ( Freckles)...
It was in rough shape at first then painted
white for many years until it wanted to be red.
I have all sorts of things that just have small hints of red on them.

Like this sweet lil doggy I picked up from
The Art ConvenZioNE I taught at last Spring.
My little red lamp with red & white checkered shade...
s sort of like a night light when we aren't home.
I love my little red picture frames I got from Michaels
last year for a buck a piece.
Perfect for sweet lil pictures.

This sweet red box with yellow pom pom trim and little
sock monkey was made by one of my best friends, Susan.
She sent it to me last Christmas. It means a lot to me...
since we are apart...& makes me think of her often.
BUT GREAT NEWS IS....
SHE IS COMING TO VISIT ME THIS WEEKEND FROM WASHINGTON!
I am counting the days...it has been over a year since we have seen each other!

And here are a couple treasures.
The little panda bear with red mouth belonged to my hubby. Mr.Darling
when he was a wee boy. He is pretty fragile...But, we love him so.
The second is a sockie monkey you have seen before in past posts.
I adopted her several years ago.
She is a really old girl and one of my most favorite sock monkey's in my collection.
I love her big red mouth old red pom pom and floral printed dress...
aren't they the sweetest?
Thank you for stopping by... Sure hope to see you again!!
Happy Rednesday!
