Vintage School Days

I have always had a love for the past, history and yesteryear. Times that are long gone with a style all it's own. They just don't make it like they used to. School is back in session for kiddo's now. I thought I'd share some fun oldies with you,,,,And bring you back to a place where things mattered.

Education was important, things were made with quality in mind, the world was a different place...And a harder place for many... It was a time where Christian morals mattered and family mattered. Did you know that school was actually harder back then...You would get a really good education. These days the standards are not high and Arts,  American History and Economics are being taken out of public schools, agenda's are being pushed and God is no longer welcome, let alone pledging allegiance to the American Flag. Families are being demoralized and demonized, children are being bullied, killed and believe it or not even brainwashed in public schools.
You can even get through High School without knowing how to read. Sad but true....

NOTE* I am not saying ALL Public schools are bad...but they are out there and it's not getting any better...My only advice as a parent to another parent would be to stay very involved in what is being taught and what is going on in those classrooms...
Anything missing or questionable, you can teach them at home.

These are the many reasons we decided to home school our children and give them a good classical education. All the good things are being taught and there isn't an agenda being pushed. Oh the good ole' days. Don't these pictures just bring a smile to your face? I myself have a collection of old school things...Little green chalk boards, school readers, old school desks, globes, flash cards etc...It's fun to collect and have enjoyed using it with my children.

Enjoy the sweet pictures from the past.

Inspiration: Idea's For My Girl's Outdoor Movie Birthday Party

Our Inspiration for Freckles 15th candle is underway. The invites have been sent....Now for the planning and making. Freckle's wish for her day was to have a few girls over for a night under the stars while watching Breakfast At Tiffany's, eating movie goodies and having a sleepover while waking up in the morning to a lovely outdoor breakfast. We decided to set up our backyard with a movie screen and comfy seating...I am bound and determined to make a pallet bed for some seating...We will be using vintage quilts and Vintage granny afghans
with vintage fabric covered pillows.

There will be a lot of lighting/ ambiance with string lights, candles and lanterns...
As flowers will also be a part of the setting. A very nice feminine touch!

She also requested a layered cake with flowers on it. Something like this. We envision it to be vintage and colorful... Can't wait! We have two weeks before the big day! Will share as we go with what we came up with!

A Pan Collar and Felt Flower Brooch

Every once in a while I will actually try things that I have pinned on Pinterest. As many of of you know my daughter Freckles and I have been doing a study of the 1940's era. I had started a Pinterest board with some inspirations and thought I would give a couple things a try. One started with my love for Peter pan collars on vintage clothing. So adorable. As a doll maker I have put many Peter pan collars on my characters, so i thought, heck why not make myself one. I am not too old for that...Am I?
I found a pattern for a collar here and sewed it in less than an hour. Note the pattern says fur collar on it...It doesn't have to be fur...You can use cotton just as I did.

The felt flower brooch was inspired by the 1940's as well. There is plenty of inspiration on felt flowers throughout Pinterest. I did not follow a pattern for the brooch I made however. I was inspired by what I saw on the boards and just winged it as best as I could. I wanted it to match the collar. And quite pleased that it complimented each other very well.

I even put my hair up, which I have not done in years. I will definitely be making more colors and brooches to coordinate with other outfits. I even got some sweet compliments from several ladies at church. I was humbled.

I will also be teaching Freckles how to make the felt flower brooch soon.
 Happy pinning to you.
Hope you find some inspiration there on Pinterest.
I have a little goal to actually trying out the pins I pin.
Heck, why not.
Have a great week ahead.

Home Decor~ Inspiration Mood Boards

I made some home decorating Inspiration
mood boards...This is just some of the stuff I would love
to do in my own home. And surely here to give y'all inspiration too.
They were fun to make...I hope you like them. The first one is
The Living Room~
~I would love to re~upholster my chair like the patchwork one here.
It is so stinking cute. I would probably choose a different pallet of color...
But this is pretty close. The couch is from Ikea as is the pendant light..
.I just adore the bright, cheery colors don't you?

Next is a bright
 Kitschy Kitchen~
Oh how I would love that fridge and stove or something like it. I adore vintage linens and a farm sink oh my...The table here would make an awesome kitchen island...and definetly the vintage dishes in white, red and robins egg blue. A red telly and all the accessories...Yummy...

The Dining Room~
I love the colors...the pendant light from Ikea, the fabrics would be great for napkins or table runners etc....Mis matched chairs and a white farm stle log table...This is right up my alley.

The Bedroom~
I love the Ikea bed...I actually have one, the colorful afghan with the polka dotted bedding from Ikea...so fun...An old dresser and side table with hoop art on the walls, patchwork pillows full of color ..I am in love with this. Okay some day.... For now my house is being packed up to be put into storage for who knows how long...I will just have to enjoy these mood boards for now. (sigh).
I will be sure to share some more rooms with you soon. have a wonderful Friday.

Be Still......

"Be still and know that I am God"

Psalm 46:10
As much as I think or feel I can do it all myself!
I must remember to
be still.
I have worked non stop for the past
month and a half trying to prepare for our move.
It is almost finished.
( the unpacking part)
Meanwhile my little family ended up ill,
my hubby sprained his ankle, which left me with
minimal help towards the end.
Oh no, But God is good.
Our dear friends called me out of the blue and said
they were coming to help me get things done!
I didn't even have to ask.
They came and helped us out...
And now there's light at the end of the tunnel!

Until I ended up sick this last week too!
It was a rough, miserable week.
Until this little voice in my mind repeated
"Be still".
I opened my Bible.
And was lovingly reminded to
be still
and know that God is in control.
Never to worry, never to fret.
He is in control!
I needed that gentle reminder.
It truly was a better day for me...
I was able to put our daughters room together!
I know I cannot do things all on my own.

Inspiration Storybook Dolls....

I will have to be honest here. I wasn't read to as a child...
And if my Mom told me they read to me,
I would have to say, I don't remember.
Sad but true.
Then there was a time in my adolescent life, I could care less about books anyway.
I really hate to say that now, since our home is currently filled with hundreds of books.
As I got older I found an appreciation for reading the written word. I will also confess it all started when I began reading children books to my own children.
They were the beloved stories by Maurice Sendak
( Little Bear and Where The Wild Things Are etc...)
The Little Golden book classics of The Red Hen,Chicken Little,
The many stories of sly foxes.
And.... so much more!
To this day I LOVE to read Children books. It had grown to reading the Bible and finding appreciation in other genres.
I have vowed....To read myself and to my children always, which has made them into book lovers.
That's when our personal library started to bust at the seams.
We are the family who reads and finds pleasure in it. They will never know a time where we never read to them, or that they lived with books around them. What a delight!

That just gives you an idea of where my imagination comes in as an Artist.
Over the last 14 years I have been a doll Artist.
Many of my creations are inspired by the romance of childhood yesteryear.
Storybooks and children dressed in costume. Even from my own children.
I dream it, I see it, I then make it.
I thank God everyday for my creative side,
I have no other explanation of where it comes from,
but God.

So, here they are, my newest little designs... sweetness comes to life from children classics. A funny character inspired by Where The Wild Things Are, a silly red chicken inspired by The Little Red Hen
and Foxy Loxy inspired by Chicken Little. My daughter has told me what characters to make...
I must also thank her for the idea.

Be on the look out for an inspiration Pig, next!
All these sweeties are available for adoption.
Please stop by to check them out...more pictures and poses too!!!
