My Winter Reds In The Kitchen....

I am a day late in sharing my reds....Well, it's never really too late is it? I was cleaning my kitchen this morn and thinking of all the wonderful blessings and gifts in my life...with a smile on my face. I thought heck...while I am here why not share the joy I am seeing today with y'all. I cleaned, wiped and dusted every inch of my little kitchen. Feels like Spring cleaning. Outside my window..it's sunny and beautiful yet very cold out.

I just love this huge jar of cherries. I love cherries...So, I got this huge jar to nibble on like candy. Well, it's probably better than candy really. This afternoon I made a chocolate cherry protein shake with these sweet red balls of goodness...It was so good...Good for you too.

I feel so happy today...And so many things to be happy about. Thanks be to God for His unwavering grace and love, His word and His gifts to my family. I am grateful, I am thankful, I am full of joy.
Have a Happy Rednesday.

Saturday....

This morning I tied my apron strings and got busy with keeping the home. I am doing a thorough deep clean before Fall...School starts soon! And we're throwing our daughter a Mad Hatter Tea Party this coming weekend for her 11th birthday. She didn't have a party for her 10th so we are making it up since we won't have another until probably her 13th. Big parties every year wouldn't make things special anyway. Can't wait to show you some of the ides I found for her day! I am also making her gifts!
I made a hearty, country breakfast to get the day going and I was off !
 I love pancakes,scrambled eggs and sausage,YUM!

I also love my new apron..I got it for pennies,
 literally..It was $1.00!

Enjoying my new chair.... I sold a few things on Craigs list and Ebay to buy my chair since my old chair was too awkward in that space and starting to rip. It is the cutest find with it's sweet plaid upholstery full of happy colors, jumbo rick rack for whimsy and pockets on each side.
A perfect spot to keep remotes, toys and my Bible for quiet devotions.

Today I swept, vaccumned, scrubbed, mopped, dusted and moved things around for a little change of scenery.Everything smells and feels so Summery fresh!!!
Also enjoying moments with my daughter, reading our vintage childrens books.
She loves to be read to every night...well, almost every night, when there is time.
And...Playing with dolls. This sweet doll has been with us since Freckles was a baby.
It is an Anne Geddes Rag Doll. We are also missing our son while he is currently out of the Country on his Mission trip to Czech. We got an e-mail from him the other day which was wonderful and very encouraging. Two more weeks and he will be home! Tonight we prepare for The Lord's Day...Church and fellowship with our Summer internship congrgation and hopping over our friends house afterwards for an overdue visit. hope you all are having a great weekend!

Baking Cookies Wearing Aprons....

Today we drove up to my Sister's house to do a day of baking for Christmas with her and my Mom & Gramma. The house was already filled with aromas of sweet goodies. We baked chocolate chip, sugar, surprise, snicker doodle, peanut butter, spritz and Russian tea cake cookies along with cherry cheese cakes, banana raisin bread, coconut somethings, fudge and rice crispy/cookie bars. Oh my Goodness there was tons...Which we split among ourselves in the end..... I may have to share with friends or else I'm gonna gain a million pounds over Christmas break.

I was so excited to give my "girls" their gifts I made especially for them this year...So we kinda did some early present exchanging. I made My Mom, Gramma and Sister each an apron to bake in., especially for this occasion...Well, at least it was a good place to start wearing them in. They seemed to love them! And that made me quite happy.

Here they are sporting their new baking wear.
Aww they look so cute in them. Me so proud!!!!

For Gramma I chose this blue fabric with fruit on it since she loves blue and loves fruit...She also enjoys cooking and baking. The kitchen has alway's been her domain. She told me how her Gramma would always have them wear aprons during the times they cooked or baked and they would even have aprons to match their dresses. She wore the apron all day while we baked. I was so happy to see her enjoy the fruits of my labor.

For my Mama I made her a cheery apron in red... and she looked so festive in it. I knew it would make her happy since she tells me that she wants handmade gifts from me...She says they are the best! I am so glad she appreciated it....She looked very cute and spunky in it!

For my Sister I made a classic patchwork apron from vintage fabrics in all her colors...It even matched her cookware.... She wore it proudly in her kitchen. It was really a funky sort of apron but fit her personality to a T. Oh and each apron also came with a little spatula ornament!Yay! It sure made my day to see them wearing the aprons and to bake and sing Christmas songs at the top of our lungs was priceless. It really feels like Christmas time... Gramma got teary eyed today because she was so happy inside. We had a great time...Special moments and memories were made this weekend. And we left with some great treats!

Freckles and I still have some baking to do next week..
We enjoy making gingerbread men and sugar cookie cut outs .... Yum!
Can't wait. Have a lovely day today and may you bake many memories this Christmas season.

A Hanging Out Sort Of Summer Day....

The perfect Summer day is sipping on an ice cold chai tea,
hanging out with the family, having fun and keeping cool.
Not only are we hanging out,
my aprons are too!

We are also reading books.
I have been collected these ( and many more ) old vintage children books for my kids and someday
Lord willing I can bless my grandchildren with them.
When that time comes...
This week Freckles starts swimming lessons
and Maestro is flying out to Washington for a whole month of Summer fun... again!
I told myself last year I wouldn't let go that long... But I gave in.
He will have a blast though... One fun thing he will be doing is camping at Mt. Rainier.
It will be lonely without him here, I am gonna miss my baby boy....
But still have lot's of fun Summer plans for Freckles......

I am also taking up my Hubby's suggestion and keeping a journal of some thoughts this Summer. Just things that pass through my head... So hopefully I can keep it up, as well as my newest lifestyle change... I am bound and determined to get my health and body back into shape after years of depression and weight gain. By God's grace I have been able to conquer the depression I had for so long and without the use of mind altering meds.. I am ready to get my soul, my mind and booty in gear. I am usually not one to share these sorts of things... but, hopefully with some encouragement I will be able to do this.
Hope your having a wonderful hanging out sort of Summer!

An Apron, A Mold and an Upside Down Pineapple Cake

Miss Freckles is ready in the kitchen to bake
her first pineapple upside down cake with her vintage smock from T-Party.
We had guests over for dinner the other night,
and had to make a quick yummy dessert.

And here to help...is this fun find from the thrift shoppe.
An upside down pineapple cake mold!!!
($2.00)

I have never seen one before...
so had to bring it home.
It's not only functional...
but, it is also cute.

Pineapple Upside-Down Cake
Makes one 9-inch cake

7 slices canned unsweetened pineapple (20-ounce can)
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
¾ cup packed light brown sugar
19 maraschino cherries
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons buttermilk
½ teaspoon vanilla
1 cup all-purpose flour
¾ cup granulated sugar
¾ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons (¾ stick) unsalted butter, softened
6 tablespoons buttermilk
*******

Directions
***
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Have ready a 9×2-inch round cake pan. Drain pineapple and place in one layer on paper towels to absorb the excess juice.

2. Place the 3 tablespoons unsalted butter in the cake pan. Place the pan
in the oven until the butter is melted. Tilt to coat all sides with butter. The extra butter will settle in the bottom of the pan. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the bottom of the pan.

3. Place one pineapple ring in the center of the pan and arrange six more around it. Place the maraschino cherries in the center of each ring and in the spaces between them.

4. In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs, 2 tablespoons of
buttermilk and vanilla with a fork.
5. In a mixer bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking
soda and salt. Add the 6 tablespoons of unsalted butter and 6 tablespoons of buttermilk.
Beat on low speed just until the flour is moistened, then increase the speed to medium, or high if using a hand-held mixer, and beat for exactly 1½ minutes.
The batter will be stiff.
Add one-third of the egg mixture at a time, beating for exactly 20 seconds and scraping the bowl after each addition. Scrape the batter over the fruit evenly.

6. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the cake comes out clean, 35 to 40 minutes. Remove the cake from the oven and tilt the pan in all directions to detach it from the sides of the pan. Let cool for 2 to 3 minutes before un-molding.

7. Invert a serving platter on top of the pan. Cover your hands with oven mitts
and turn the cake onto the platter.

Lift off the pan. If any fruit or cherry pieces are askew,
use a fork to push them back into place.
If any brown sugar is left in the pan, scrape it up and spoon it over the cake.
Serve warm or cool.

This is a wonderful recipe as the cake turned out
perfect and our guests gobbled it right up!!!
Enjoy!!!

Sunny Blue Skies

Ah!!! Southern California is having a very mild Winter.
This is outside my window.
Sunny, blue skies and beautiful.
Yet, I heard we are supposed to be getting some stormy weather.

It is hard to believe that it is Winter when you have sights such as this.
And there are trees already in bloom.

We are actually enjoying it though, since we had such a HOT Summer.
I spent some time in the kitchen this weekend...packing.

Yup!!! We are moving again!

I can't wait! We are so excited to move to this new area.
I will be popping in as much as I can.
I have two weeks before the big day, so keep us in prayer.

But, for now,
We are off to enjoy these little pies!
Hope you had a cheery weekend!
